Introducing our colleague of the year 2015 – Rebecca Singleton

In Issue 1 of Highlights, we revealed the nominees for the 2015 Habasit Colleague of the Year award. After much deliberation, our Works Council announced that Rebecca Singleton would be the latest recipient of the award. Rebecca was nominated for her willingness to learn new skills to improve the responsiveness of the Customer Care Team. We asked her if she would show the same willingness to answer a few questions for us about herself and to give you an insight into what it takes to become Colleague of the Year.

Please can you introduce yourself and give a brief explanation of your role:
I’m Rebecca Singleton and I am part of the Customer Care Team based at our head office in Yorkshire. I process quotes and orders and communicate with customers, both internal and external, by telephone or e-mail.

When did you join Habasit and what was your career path previously?
I joined the company in December 2012 after spending the previous 10 years as a business developer at Howdens Joinery, who manufacture and supply fitted kitchens.

What are your main duties at Habasit?
Because the work can be so varied you have to be very versatile to work in the Customer Care Team and my role on a day to day basis can be quite flexible. I am equally at home on the phones or dealing with the large volume of work which can come into the office by e-mail. I have become the Technical Adviser in CCT on some of the more specialist products such as Cleandrive and Modular Belting. I also assist our Technical team with the production of drawings for some of our more complicated belts such as those with profiles or holes.

What do you pay special attention to in your job?
To ensure that we maintain the responsiveness and level of service our customers have come to expect, I firmly believe that things have to be done right first time. However, I appreciate that this is not always possible so when things do go wrong I try to treat and speak to people in the same manner as I would like to be treated.

What is your motivation to work for Habasit?
I joined the company in the hope of making a career at Habasit, working my way up the ladder as far as I can. To do this I feel that I need to be able to take on board as much new information as I can, and whilst I have already learnt a lot, I am hungrier to learn even more.

What words can you give to those who aspire to win this award in the future?
Do not be afraid of taking on responsibility. When I started with Habasit, I promised myself that I would never say no to any task. Without that attitude, I would never have been in a position to win this award. I would much rather be versatile and challenge myself on a daily basis than settle for the same routine tasks day in and day out.

What person would you like to be for the one day?
Well I would love a life of luxury so I wouldn’t mind being the wife of a movie star! My particular favourites are Tom Hardy, Channing Tatum and Chris Pine.

Which person inspires you?
There isn’t a particular person who inspires me. I just try to be the best person that I can be.

Which talent or skill would you most like to have?
Well I enjoy my food and I have a particularly sweet tooth so I would love to be able to eat whatever I wanted and not put on any weight!

And finally which three words describe you best?
Entertaining, Honest, Conscientious
